Apple iPhone OS 3.0

Introducing the new Apple iPhone OS 3.0 Software

The next version of Apple's mobile platform, Apple iPhone OS 3.0, is available to download now. OS 3.0 will introduce you to a range of new features, including the ability to:

  • Search your iPhone
  • Cut, copy and paste
  • Send photos, contacts, audio files and location via MMS*
  • Read and compose email and text messages in landscape
  • PLUS use the iPhone as a tethered modem# (available from 22 June)

How to upgrade the iPhone to OS 3.0

To start using iPhone with OS 3.0^, upgrading requires the following:

  1. Upgrade iTunes™ to v8.2
    • Connect iPhone to a computer via USB (the computer requires an internet connection)
    • If the computer does not have iTunes, download at www.apple.com/itunes/downloads or to upgrade existing iTunes version:
      • iTunes for Mac: Choose "Check for Updates" from the iTunes menu
      • iTunes for Windows: Choose "Check for Updates" from the Help menu
    • Total data needed to download iTunes 8.2 is 80MB
  2. Upgrading to 3.0 Software
    • Connect iPhone to a computer via USB (the computer requires an internet connection)
    • Open iTunes and select iPhone
    • On the iPhone Summary tab select "Update"
    • Minimum operating systems requirements:
      • Mac OS X 10.4.10 (or later)
      • Windows XP Home or Professional (SP2) or Windows Vista
    • Total data needed to download iPhone OS 3.0 221MB.

Optus 3G: Refers to our 2100MHz network. Optus 3G handsets/devices can provide access to 3G services only in the Optus 3G coverage area. Outside these areas, service will fall back to our Optus GSM/GPRS network. For full coverage information, go to www.optus.com.au/coverage.

*Charges apply. Available features will vary depending on your iPhone software version. MMS is only available in Optus 3G (2100MHz) network areas.

^Connection to the internet is via the Optus 3G (2100MHz) network.

#Using your iPhone as a tethered modem will use considerable amounts of data depending on your usage. It is advisable that you evaluate your current data plan's included data allowance, ensuring it will meet your planned usage requirements for both general Internet browsing, email and tethering via the iPhone.
